This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit linkroom.co.za, why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) and applicable foreign laws (including the EU GDPR where it applies). By using the site you confirm you have read this policy.
1. Information we collect
- Information you give us — your email address if you subscribe to the newsletter, and any message you send to our support address.
- Information we collect automatically — your IP address, the pages you visit, your approximate location (derived from IP), the device and browser you use, the time of your visit, and the page that referred you. We collect this through Google Analytics 4 only if you accept our cookie banner.
- Cookies and similar technologies — see section 4 below.
We do not collect or store CVs, identity numbers, banking details, or any sensitive personal information. All job applications happen on the employer's own website.
2. Why we use your information
- To send the weekly job digest you signed up for.
- To understand which job listings and pages are useful to visitors so we can improve the site.
- To serve advertisements through Google AdSense (only with your consent).
- To prevent abuse, spam, and fraud.
- To comply with our legal obligations.
3. Legal basis for processing
Under POPIA we process your information on the following bases: your consent (for cookies, analytics, advertising and the newsletter); the performance of a service you have requested (delivering the digest); and our legitimate interest in operating, securing and improving the site.
4. Cookies
We use the following categories of cookies:
- Strictly necessary — for example, the cookie that remembers your consent choice and your dark/light theme. These are always set; the site cannot work without them.
- Analytics — Google Analytics 4 (cookies
_ga,_ga_*). Loaded only after you click "Accept All" on our cookie banner. - Advertising — Google AdSense and its partners may set cookies to serve and measure ads. Loaded only after you click "Accept All".
If you click "Decline" no analytics or advertising cookies are loaded at all. You can change your choice at any time by clearing the cookie-consent-accepted cookie in your browser, after which the banner will appear again.
5. Third-party advertising (Google AdSense)
Google, as a third-party vendor, may use cookies to serve ads on Linkroom. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visits to our site and other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or by visiting aboutads.info.
6. Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with:
- Google (Analytics 4 and AdSense) for the purposes set out above.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers — Vercel Inc. (hosting) and Google Firebase (database, authentication) — who process information strictly on our instructions.
- Authorities — where we are legally required to disclose information.
7. International transfers
Some of our service providers (including Google and Vercel) operate servers outside South Africa. Where this is the case we rely on the cross-border transfer provisions of POPIA section 72 and the providers' own contractual safeguards.
8. How long we keep your information
- Newsletter subscribers — until you unsubscribe.
- Analytics events — Google Analytics retention is set to 14 months.
- Server logs — kept for up to 30 days for security and debugging.
9. External links
Linkroom links out to employer websites so you can apply directly. We do not control those websites and are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to read the privacy notice of every site you visit.
10. Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to (a) ask us to confirm whether we hold information about you, (b) request a copy of that information, (c) ask us to correct or delete it, (d) object to processing based on legitimate interest, and (e) withdraw any consent you have given at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email our Information Officer at admin@tedtec.co.za. We will respond within a reasonable period and at most within 30 days.
If you believe we have not handled your information correctly, you may also lodge a complaint with the South African Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Effective date" at the top will reflect the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated via a notice on the homepage for at least 14 days.
