Responsibilities
Lead the growth of the Biogen brand by driving strategic sales execution, optimizing product range, and ensuring effective route-to-market performance across retail, independent, and export channels. Accountable for strong commercial results across the full Biogen and co-branded portfolio, engaging key buyers and category teams, supporting new product launches, and expanding independent and export markets across Africa, the UAE, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, while operating with strong governance, operational discipline, and alignment to Dis-Chem and Biogen's strategic objectives.
Management
- Ensure all regions and staff consistently comply with Head Office requirements, policies, procedures, and deadlines.
- Manage team performance through the Performance Management System, ensuring accountability and development.
- Drive continuous training, capability development, and constructive feedback for all stakeholders.
Brand, Range & Product Management
- Manage the full Biogen product range, including co-branded and market-specific products.
- Act as a category and product specialist, maintaining in-depth knowledge of health-focused products and market trends.
- Support new product launches in conjunction with the marketing and digital teams, from concept to market, ensuring readiness across sales, merchandising, and supply.
Route to Market & Commercial Execution
- Develop and execute effective route-to-market strategies across retail, independent, and export channels, including new forecourts in South Africa.
- Grow and support the existing export market by driving product availability and identifying opportunities to increase market penetration.
- Support, manage, and grow the independent accounts allocated to the Biogen portfolio, ensuring strong commercial relationships and consistent execution across the designated partners.
- Ensure consistent and professional brand execution across all channels.
- Implement and support marketing campaigns at retail level, and ensure coherence and full adoption of the broader Biogen brand and marketing strategy.
Sales, Forecasting & Performance
- Ensure achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets across all markets.
- Support the sales forecasting, demand planning, and performance tracking teams at brand and range level.
- Analyse sales data, promotional results, and market insights to inform commercial decisions.
Buyer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage at buyer and category manager level to influence ranging, promotions, pricing, and growth initiatives.
- Partner with Marketing, Supply Chain, Finance, and Operations to deliver integrated commercial outcomes.
- Maintain strong external relationships with suppliers, distributors, and partners.
Export & Africa Market Development
- Develop and manage export strategies into Africa, including distributor relationships, pricing, compliance, and forecasting.
- Identify and develop new export markets aligned to Biogen's growth strategy.
- Ensure export readiness in terms of product compliance, availability, and operational execution.
Customer Service & Channel Excellence
- Ensure the highest standards of customer service across all regions and channels.
- Ensure customer feedback, complaints, and compliments are communicated and acted on effectively.
Merchandising & Stock Control
- Ensure compliance with merchandising standards, layouts, and promotional execution.
- Ensure effective stock management, rotation (FIFO), expiry control, and reporting.
- Ensure damaged, expired, or non-compliant stock is managed according to policy.
General
- Adhere to Dis-Chem Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Adhere to Health and Safety rules and regulations.
Requirements
Essential
- Matric or Senior Certificate, Diploma or Degree in a Health-Related field, such as Sports Science, Nutrition, Health Sciences.
- 3 – 5 years management experience within sales, marketing, brand management, category management or promotions.
- In-depth knowledge of health-focused products, category management, sales execution, and route-to-market principles. Strong understanding of retail, independent, and export environments, including relevant compliance and operational requirements.
- Ability to analyse complex information, market data, and performance trends to solve problems and make informed decisions. Sound judgement and structured thinking to manage competing priorities and changing market conditions.
- Strong commercial awareness by understanding market dynamics, customer needs, and financial drivers to make sound business decisions. Ability to identify growth opportunities across retail, independent, and export channels while balancing profitability, risk, and strategic priorities.
- Good understanding of the sales-marketing relationship and omni-channel systems.
- Clear, confident, and professional communication at all levels, including buyers, executives, teams, and external partners. Ability to convey complex commercial, financial, and strategic information in a clear and actionable manner across multiple markets and stakeholders.
- Strong ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with internal and external stakeholders through professionalism, credibility, and collaboration. Ability to influence, negotiate, and manage relationships effectively while maintaining a strong customer and results orientation.
- Consistent delivery of high-quality commercial outcomes by ensuring accuracy, compliance, and consistency across forecasting, reporting, pricing, and brand execution. Proactive identification of risks and process gaps.
